Oh my goodness! Teresa Smith is soooo excited because Santa is coming to Sewell Mill on Saturday December 3! There from 9:00-11:00 AM, Santa will be available for toy lists, breakfast, and photos. There will also be a Christmas craft activity for participating good boys and girls. Pray for the men of our church as we embark on the second week of our 30-Day Adventure: 30 daily devotions that emphasize prayer and Bible study. The men are divided into several teams, and each team’s leader calls all the men on his team. Every day! But it’s for encouragement, not for nagging or anything like that. ;-)

The annual Hardball Classic and Homerun Derby was held at the athletic complex of Mt. Paran North this last Thursday through Sunday. Sewell Mill volunteers staffed many of the jobs necessary to run the tournament, and ran the Homerun Derby as a fundraiser for the House of Grace girls’ home in Thailand.

Ivan Rouse from the Atlanta Mission shared about its programs, and how we can help in that endeavor. An easy first step for someone interested in volunteering would be to go to their facility and help serve a meal. Ivan encouraged us to change the way we think about homelessness, to really focus on the person and the need rather than the stigma. Changing lives is what it’s all about!

Next to share with us was Randy Glass of Atlanta Mission’s Thrift Ministry. He challenged us to read two books to help us better understand ministry and serving the poor: Radical, and Crazy Love. He shared his own story of how God moved him from Investment Banking to full time ministry with the Atlanta Mission. With 34,000 homeless in the metro Atlanta area, Randy impressed upon us the importance of their ministry and steps we could take to join the good work. After Randy’s talk, church member Peggy McCane sang a song for us. Irene Brooks, a Thrift Store manager, then shared with us her story of joining the Mission, and how their stores minister to people every day.



Trey Abney works with the Refuge West/Refuge Mobile ministry. They provide food to many families in their neighborhood, as well as gathering emergency food boxes for struggling families. Trey told us some amazing things happening in and around their ministry: stories of God’s provision, answered prayer, healing, and changed lives. Next, our own Pastor David Watson shared with us new missions opportunities that are a result of the recent violent storms in the Southeast. In the near future we will be putting together a trip in hopes of building an ongoing relationship with Rainsville, Alabama, and helping them rebuild. Please plan on being present for our 3rd Annual Missions Conferece, May 14-15. On Saturday May 14, from 1:00-5:00 PM, we will hear from local organizations trying to share Christ and meet needs in the Atlanta metro area. They will also provide practical ways that you can be involved yourself to accomplish the Great Commission.

On Sunday May 15, we will feature our own supported missionaries and a speaker from Ravi Zaccharias ministries. Our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to our combined choir concert with New Life Baptist Church. Current and past members of both congregations were involved, as well as children from both churches, pictured above.
