An easy first step for someone interested in volunteering would be to go to their facility and help serve a meal. Ivan encouraged us to change the way we think about homelessness, to really focus on the person and the need rather than the stigma. Changing lives is what it’s all about!
You can visit their website for more information.

Next to share with us was Randy Glass of Atlanta Mission’s Thrift Ministry. He challenged us to read two books to help us better understand ministry and serving the poor: Radical, and Crazy Love. He shared his own story of how God moved him from Investment Banking to full time ministry with the Atlanta Mission. With 34,000 homeless in the metro Atlanta area, Randy impressed upon us the importance of their ministry and steps we could take to join the good work. After Randy’s talk, church member Peggy McCane sang a song for us. Irene Brooks, a Thrift Store manager, then shared with us her story of joining the Mission, and how their stores minister to people every day.

Trey Abney works with the Refuge West/Refuge Mobile ministry. They provide food to many families in their neighborhood, as well as gathering emergency food boxes for struggling families. Trey told us some amazing things happening in and around their ministry: stories of God’s provision, answered prayer, healing, and changed lives.
